Building the Block was a collaboration between Springdale’s The Station and the human centered design graphic design class at the UofA that aimed to create an event system to gather information from the Marshallese and Latino community to build better community events. I was a part of designing and constructing multilingual flyers, yard signs, as well as some spreads for our class research book.
I learned the value of being able to be bilingual because it would allow for me and my other classmates to be able to not only translate our designs into different languages but to also help our other classmates communicate at the event with other Spanish speakers. Building the Block was an experience that I will never forget. It showed me that through our design processes, we can help a community.
